The windshield added extra resistance to the machine, causing the motor to work a little harder, and, it will block the amount of wind noise that you normally get which may make the engine seem louder. I take it, since you metioned a specific type of oil, that you used regular type motor oil the first time you changed it, and that this is the first time you have used a 100% synthetic oil in your machine. Mobil 1 is much "slicker" (to use a common term) and flows easier through the engine than regular oil, which would explain less engine noise. I do have a question, though. You said that you changed the oil at 3000 miles yesterday. Is that 3000 miles on the odometer, or three thousand miles since you last changed the oil at 1500 miles. Also, what type of helmet are you wearing? Do you wear the same kind of helmet all the time, or do you wear an open face helmet when it's warmer and a full face when it's cold. A full face helmet will block a lot of engine noise that you hear when wearing an open face helemt. Inquiring minds want to know.
